Voelklip at a glance

Voëlklip, together with Kwaaiwater, is known for its breathtaking natural beauty, pristine beaches, majestic mountains, and a range of outdoor activities;  this area offers a unique blend of tranquillity and adventure.  The suburb is surrounded by lush fynbos vegetation, contributing to the region's biodiversity and appeal.

Many properties boast stunning sea views or back onto the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains and fynbos. The area's desirability has led to increased property investment and development in recent years.

The picturesque beaches are one of the main draws to Voelklip. Grotto Beach, in particular, is a Blue Flag beach renowned for its white sand and excellent swimming conditions.  The beach stretches 18km along the coastline and is poplar for both short and long walks along the watermark.  There are times that the Klein River Estuary breaks across the beach, when we've had enough winter rain, so access to the full length of the beach from the Hermanus side can be restricted by the strong flow of the estuary, but once the estuary becomes tidal it resembles a beautiful blue lagoon and a stunning place to swim.  

Voelklip Beach and Kammabaai are two smaller beaches which are family friendly and preferred by Surfers for the clean lines on good days

Langbaai (Long Beach) which, despite it's name, is actually one of the smallest beaches nestled in a cove below cliffs, our version of Clifton.  Extremely popular for sundowners in the peak season.

Kwaaiwater (Shelly Beach) is a rough corner of the coastline but brilliant for picnicking and picking up shells.  The little Mossel River flows down this beach and sometimes you can be lucky enough to see the ottos come down to the beach at dust.

Voeklip has other little coves that can all be access along the extremely beautiful Cliff Path which is part of the Fernkloof Nature Reserve. 

Options for outdoor recreation in Voeklip are endless with access to the mountain, the estuary and the beaches.  Water sports include swimming, canoeing, surfing, bodyboarding, bodysurfing, fishing, kitesurfing (we've entertained the world's best on our estuary, estuary mouth or the sea), waterskiing, wakeboarding;  also paragliding, walking, hiking (mountain or beach), and photography - exquisite land and seascapes   

Voëlklip has a few of good restaurants,  our belovered Dutchies on Grotto Beach, and all time favourite all year around.  Lizettes, for a touch of the East, on the famous traffic and Hopside Down at Voelklip Beach.  Various Coffee and Ice Cream Kiosks can be found on the beaches, the one on Kammabaai deserve a special mention.  There's also a great "bread and milk shop", that offers tasty ready cooked meals too.  Town centre is about a 5 minute drive away outside of the season and perhaps 10 - 15 minutes away in peak season traffic (think the week between Christmas and New Year)
